HUB, Bridges and Women’s Pioneer Housing: together for much-needed affordable housing in West London
We’re delighted to be partnering with social impact investor, Bridges, and Women’s Pioneer Housing (WPH), an association providing affordable housing for women, on a new development in West London. This project will see a large new residential building and many new homes created for WPH residents.
Women’s Pioneer Housing was founded in 1920 to provide women with good quality accommodation and help make a positive difference to women’s lives. Gender inequality remains a huge issue, women’s median earnings are 34.3% less than men’s. Nationally, only 21% of workers in high earning ‘STEM’ roles are women. Meanwhile, 89% of people experiencing severe domestic violence are women. WPH assist women through their portfolio of over 1,000 properties.
The project also includes a new WPH head office. This will give them the space they need to continue their great work. The site is ideally located on Wood Lane in White City, just north of the redeveloped BBC Television Centre. Newground Architects are currently drawing up designs for the new homes and WPH will maintain the freehold of the site.
Denise Fowler, WPH CEO, says 'It’s nearly a century after Women’s Pioneer Housing was founded, and women are still facing economic disadvantage in finding suitable housing at reasonable rents. We are excited to work with HUB and Bridges in achieving our vision, by offering around 80 new, safe, secure affordable homes, designed for women. This scheme will provide much needed housing for a wide range of women, providing security for those who need the flats long term and a springboard for those whose incomes rise as they progress in their careers’.
